New Music Monday with Dying Wish & More!

“Obsessed” – After Smoke Clears

After Smoke Clears is back this week, bringing us a crushingly heavy banger with their new single, “Obsessed.” This song has all of those elements that After Smoke Clears does so consistently well. The down-tuned, catchy riffs, explosive vocals, and booming drums are all there. However, “Obsessed” also features some semi-melodic and progressive elements. And that’s all in addition to it including their first experimentation with a very mild touch of clean vocals, an unexpected but stellar change of pace. “Obsessed” stems from vocalist Nick Hurford’s real life experience with obsessive thoughts. Read my interview with Nick about the new track and more here. The band will also play their first show in 18 months at The Black Heart in Camden on August 27th. Get your tickets here.

“Buried Underground” – Alien Weaponry

Alien Weaponry will soon release their new album, Tangaroa. That’s where you’ll find “Buried Underground”, the band’s latest banger that’s so catchy you won’t want it to end. The band also released a video for this new song which features fan submitted videos of a stomp style dance. Tangaroa drops on September 17th. Preorder it here.

“Until Mourning Comes” – Dying Wish

A breakdown can sometimes make or break a song. It’s that moment in time where it feels like your speakers grew arms and started tearing shit off the walls. They’re smashing things, the lights are flickering, and we’re just sitting there banging our heads to this brutal beatdown. The first one that comes to mind for me is always the breakdown in Slaughter to Prevail’s “Demolisher”. So imagine a song starting out with that level of heaviness. Well thanks to Portland’s Dying Wish, we don’t have to imagine it because that’s how “Until Mourning Comes” opens. This song does so much more than just that though. Its mix of fast paced aggression and soaring melodies combined with that make it standout that much more. “Until Mourning Comes” will be on the forthcoming debut album from Dying Wish, Fragments of a Bitter Memory. That won’t be released until October 1st, but preorders are available here in the meantime.

“Wake Up” – Spirit Adrift

It’s not very often that we hear new(er) metal bands who don’t shy away from a classic, heavy metal vibe with their music. Yes, there are bands emerging all the time that fit into the “heavy metal” genre. But it’s more rare to hear new music that feels as if you were instantly transported into the 80s heavy metal scene. With the way subgenres like metalcore have taken over, this style of music is looked at by some as “dated”. Spirit Adrift, though, continues to prove that it’s actually timeless. Their newest single, “Wake Up” is almost reminiscent of bands like Scorpions and Van Halen, but in a new age, Spirit Adrift kind of way. “Wake Up” comes from Spirit Adrift’s upcoming EP, Forge Your Future which drops August 27th. Preorder your copy here.

“Paralyze” – 3TEETH feat. Ho99o9

If you’re a fan of industrial metal, 3TEETH is a band that should be in your regular rotation. If this is your first introduction to them, you should know that 3TEETH is a band that is completely unique in their own right. And that’s just part of what makes their music so enticing. “Paralyze”, their latest track featuring Ho99o9, holds true to that sentiment. At first, its techno and hip hop elements might throw you off if you’re not a fan of those genres. However, they also contribute to the deeply aggressive tone throughout “Paralyze”. 3TEETH will hit the road with Cradle of Filth this fall. Get your tickets for that tour here.
