Top New Heavy Songs of September 2022

September 30, 2022

September has been quite a weird month for me, both in good and bad ways. But one of the good weird things was an expansion of my musical horizon. This edition of New Music Monthly features the most eclectic group of new music I’ve featured this year. On this list of the top new heavy songs of September 2022, you’ll of course hear lots of metal. But you’ll also hear other new heavy tracks that caught my attention from bands like Kid Kapicihi, whose new single is so catchy I just had to include it. Plus there’s also tracks like the high energy new single from Anti-Flag featuring Ashrita Kumar of Pinkshift

As always, some songs and/or bands from this month’s playlist have also been added to some of my other playlists like Underground Metal and Metal Women

Listen to my New Music Monthly playlist and check out the Monthly Highlights below for more details on some of these new and noteworthy releases. And don’t forget to vote for your favorite heavy new tracks of the month at the bottom of the page! Voting will end just before next month’s edition, at 12am EST on October 30th. The songs with the most votes at that time will be added to our Best Songs of 2022 list at the end of the year.

NEW HEAVY SONGS OF September 2022: MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS

“Wasteland” – No Coffin

Depicting the sounds of a true, post apocalyptic “Wasteland”, No Coffin roars with hellish fury in this new song. This sludgy and doomy track has those iconic, mesemserizing No Coffin riffs that will leave you hypnotized. “Wasteland” comes off of No Coffin’s newest EP, Heaven Below, which I highly recommend checking out in its entirety. It marks their second EP release this year following July’s Hell Above EP. Stream Hell Above, Heaven Below or pre-order it on cassette here. And if you’re new to the monstrously heavy sounds of No Coffin, check out my YouTube video where I talk about their past releases, and why they’re a band you don’t want to sleep on.

“Soul Bleach” – Parkway Drive

“Soul Bleach” is easily one of my favorite tracks off the new Parkway Drive album, Darker Still. This song is again extremely vicious and intense as soon as it starts. It fast, has some of those rap style vocals to keep up with how fast the music is moving, but it’s all screams. This is that no holds barred track. If you’re a fan of bands like Upon a burning body especially their newer stuff, you must hear this song. I also already added this to my workout playlist because this song is just beast. Listen or pick up a physical copy of the new Parkway Drive album, Darker Still here. And if you need a little convincing first, check out my full review of the album here on YouTube

“Exit Wound” – CABAL

I couldn’t help but immediately be hooked on “Exit Wound”. This track roars with raw, ruthless aggression making it absolutely brutal from start to finish. This new single from CABAL gives us another taste of what’s to come on their new album Magno Interitus. That won’t be released until October 21st. But you can pre-order and/or pre-save it here.

“Fortune Teller” – Blessings of Mara

Hauntingly hypnotic riffs set the tone for the latest banger from Blessings of Mara, “Fortune Teller”. There’s also this gut-punching heaviness to this track that makes it absolutely crushing. And the breakdown just before the end of the track is sure to have you ready to rage in the pit.

“I wrote the lyrics of the song to be from the perspective of someone that’s feeling hopeless and wants to know that they haven’t wasted their life and that everything will be okay. The song is a desperate cry for help from someone that is broken and feeling like they need to know the pain they’re feeling now is worth it in the long run,” says Connor of Blessings of Mara about the new track. Stream “Fortune Teller” on your favorite platform.
