New Heavy Music That’s “Not of This Earth” : NMM

January 18, 2021

A few months ago when listening to my New Music Monday playlist, my husband said “this is kind of like an experience.” When I asked what he meant, he said “you kind of have a theme with the songs you pick. They all just fit.” While this is The Versatile Virgo, I do carefully pick these songs each week in an attempt to give you a cool listening experience. This week, you might say that experience is one that is “Not of This Earth”.

This week’s new heavy tracks are all very different in sound. However, they all have a sort of grungey, sludgey, doom like presence. With all of the craziness going on in the world, it’s a vibe that I’ve been yearning for. Plus we got a ton of snow this weekend so these songs became my soundtrack to Snowpocalypse.

NMM PLAYLIST FOR 1/18/21

NMM List Not of This Earth Pin

Before we get started, don’t forget that you can listen along with my Spotify playlist. It has all of these songs lined up for you so you can just hit play.

1. “Not Of This Earth” – Bloody Hammers

I couldn’t think of a better way to start this week’s playlist than with “Not of This Earth”. This dark and spooky track, from a lyrical standpoint, is a tribute to Roger Corman’s 1957 film of the same name.

“Not of This Earth” comes off of Bloody Hammers’ newly released album ‘Songs of Unspeakable Terror’. I was jamming to the album this weekend, and I highly recommend giving it a listen. ‘Songs of Unspeakable Terror’ is available on Bloody Hammers’ bandcamp page. You can also order it or stream it here.

2. “I’m Staying Home” – Monolord

Sweden’s Monolord delivered some absolutely grungey, sludgey stoner doom this week with their new track “I’m Staying Home”. It’s the perfect fit for Winter 2021 given the current state of the world. “I’m Staying Home” will make you want to do just that, so you can blast this from your speakers and headbang at home.

The song was recorded in 2019 when the band was working on their album ‘No Comfort’. It’s now available to stream as a double single. Physical copies are available to preorder before they’re released on February 5th. Stream or place your preorder here.

3. “Fake What’s Yours” – Eyehategod

“Fake What’s Yours” is the second single Eyehategod has released from their upcoming album ‘A History of Nomadic Behavior’. It’s raw, gritty, and 100% what we all need right now. ‘A History of Nomadic Behavior’ will be the first new album from Eyehategod in 7 years once it’s released on March 12th. While we’re waiting for it to drop, you can preorder it here.

4. “Paper Tiger” – Ghost Iris

“Paper Tiger” is the brutally heavy new single from Ghost Iris’s upcoming album which is expected to drop in Spring 2021. Still in your morning fog? Haven’t finished your coffee yet? This beast of a track will do the trick. While we’re waiting for what’s next from the Danish prog metallers, you can keep streaming “Paper Tiger” on these platforms.

5. “Motordeath” – The Crown

The Crown is set to release their new album, ‘Royal Destroyer’ on March 12th. “Motordeath” is the first track we’re getting to hear off of that release. This fast, intense adrenaline filled ride is fueled by insane riffs and pure aggression. If this song is any indication of how the rest of the album will sound, it’s definitely one you’ll want to preorder or at the very least, presave. You can preorder ‘Royal Destroyer’ along with some merch here.

6. “Zombie Apocalypse” – Accept

Of course the NMM “Not of This Earth” playlist ends with a “Zombie Apocalypse”. Legendary metal band Accept is set to release their new album ‘Too Mean To Die’ on January 29th. “Zombie Apocalypse” comes off of that, bringing you on the ultimate heavy metal thrill ride. It’s packed with killer riffs, and a chorus that you can’t help but sing along to. Preorders for Accept’s new album are available here.
