NMM 4/26/21 Featuring Bodom After Midnight & More!

NMM Playlist With Bodom After Midnight

Don’t forget to listen along with today’s episode of The Versatile Virgo Podcast. It’s also the only place you’ll be able to hear today’s Mystery Bonus Track From The Past, so make sure to tune in to find out what it is and why we’re talking about it.

1. “Hell Of It” – Beartooth

Ohio’s Beartooth are set to drop their 4th album, Below, this June. The band’s latest track, “Hell Of It”, gives us a taste for what’s to come, and let me tell you, it’s a banger. Beartooth is a band that I love having on my workout playlists, as well as my IDGAF playlists, and “Hell Of It” is a great example as to why. Let’s just say that this in your face track in meant to be played LOUD. And the breakdown in here?! Absolutely fucking amazing. Below will drop on June 25th. Preorder it here in the meantime.

2. “40 Stories” – Alluvial

Speaking of upcoming albums, Alluvial will release their new album Sarcoma on May 28th. “40 Stories” comes off of that. Guitarist Wes Hauch said that it was initially meant to be an instrumental track. It’s easy to see why, because instrumentally alone this song is a powerhouse. But with the vocals adding an extra layer of deep intensity, “40 Stories” hits on a whole other level. You can preorder Sarcoma before it’s released here.

Dark Electric Guitar

3. “Invincible” – Dear Mother

I have to say, it’s looking like this summer is going to be pretty damn heavy, at least when it comes to new metal albums. “Invincible” comes from Dear Mother’s upcoming, debut album, Bulletproof, which will drop on July 16th. The song itself is full of raw emotion, driven by powerful vocals and dark and heavy instrumentals. Preorders for Bulletproof are available here on the band’s website.

4. “Payback’s a Bitch” – Bodom After Midnight

Last year, Alexi Laiho’s band, Bodom After Midnight, recorded new music in Finland. What was meant to be the beginning for this melodic death metal band ended far too soon with Alexi’s passing last December. Just a few days ago, the band released these recordings on their debut EP, Paint The Sky With Blood. It houses 3 tracks, including “Payback’s a Bitch”. If you’re a fan of Alexi’s prior work with Children of Bodom, you’ll definitely want to check out this EP. Physical copies of Paint The Sky With Blood are available here, along with some Bodom After Midnight merch.

5. “Next In Line” – Rival Order

You might remember Rival Order from this review I wrote last year for their EP, Beginnings. This week they’re back bringing us some new melodic death to headbang to! After Beginnings, Rival Order kept the momentum going and began tracking a second EP. But when drummer Kurt Holtz had decided to part ways with Rival Order last year, things became up in the air for new music. That was until Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, Soilwork) agreed to step in on drums for the second EP.

“Next In Line” comes off of that release, giving us lots to look forward to from this emerging metal band. There’s not a firm date yet on when we can expect Rival Order’s new EP. However, in the meantime, make sure to follow their Instagram so you don’t miss out what’s to come.
