EP Alert: “Beginnings” From Rival Order [Full Review]

October 7, 2020

You might remember a review I did a while back on Pat Reilly’s solo album ‘Path To Transcendence’. He was brought in to play with Rival Order on their latest EP ‘Beginnings’, which is out now. I was fortunate enough to have Rival Order send me a copy and it’s definitely worth checking out.

Review of Rival Order’s ‘Beginnings’

‘Beginnings’ opens up with “Illusion”, bringing us pounding drums, hypnotizing riffs, and combination of singing and screaming. This style continues into “Save Me”, which features an absolutely soaring guitar. It’s a track that has more aggressive verses than the former, but still keeps a catchy chorus. You’ll probably find yourself singing along, because I certainly was even after just my first listen.

The next track, “War Transmission”, is probably the heaviest on the album. It booms from beginning to end while featuring more screaming than the two prior songs. There is also a breakdown in here that leads into an impeccable guitar solo and it’s just down right awesome.

The final track is a cover of Five Finger Death Punch’s “Wash It All Away”. I prefer when a cover sounds like the band your listening to AND the original song, like the “Rainbow In The Dark” cover from Khemmis. Rival Order nailed it, even right down to Ivan Moody’s “up on everything” scream just before the song ends.

Just as additional info, the digital album copy at the time of this article does not have the “Wash It All Away” cover included, but it is available to stream. On the digital copy of the EP, “War Transmission” would be your last track.
