1. “Make Noise” – Prison

As soon as I heard the teaser on Prison’s Instagram for “Make Noise”, I couldn’t wait for it to drop. Booming from the second it starts, it’s undeniable energy will certainly have you banging your head. “Make Noise” is the perfect way to get that extra dose of adrenaline to start your Monday which is why it’s first on the playlist this week. In addition to Spotify, it’s also available through Apple music. A digital copy of the track, as well as the band’s discography, can be purchased here on Prison’s bandcamp. Prison also has some really cool merch available here.

2. “Worship Decay” – Sylosis

After releasing their first new album in 5 years back in February, Sylosis is back with a new single, “Worship Decay”. The crushing standalone track was written and recorded during the first UK lockdown and it definitely captures the spirit of 2020. “Worship Decay” is streaming now on all platforms. If you’re looking to pick up the band’s latest album, ‘Cycle of Suffering’ you can order a copy here along with some merch.

3. “Sleeping with the Enemy” – Butcher Babies

Butcher Babies are back with their second heavy single of 2020, “Sleeping with the Enemy”. This song has more of an industrial sound than their prior releases, and it works well for them. “Sleeping with the Enemy” also has more screaming than the previous single, “Bottom of a Bottle”. Overall, it still has a more melodic approach, but these ladies are the masters of both.

Butcher Babies also announced they will be doing a livestream concert on December 18. Tickets are available here.

4. “Stars” – Einherjer

Einherjer brings us some killer Viking metal this week with their new single “Stars”. It’s the first track the band has released off of their upcoming album ‘North Star’ which is set to be released on February 26, 2021. If I could choose a riff to be my theme music for the week, the main riff in “Stars” would be it. I love a song that is hypnotic enough to make you want to move, and that’s exactly what Einherjer delivers here. ‘North Star’ is available for preorder here, along with the 25th anniversary edition of their first album ‘Dragons of the North’ which is being released on the same day.

5. “Common Prayers” – Moonspell

Moonspell will be releasing their 13th studio album ‘Hermitage’ on February 26, 2021. “Common Prayers” comes off of this release. The song is about the pregnancy surge amidst Portuguese nuns in the 18th Century. Demolitions and excavations in the 20th Century revealed the fate of those children, after leading to the discovery of hundreds of children’s bones. ‘Hermitage’ is available for preorder here while we wait for it’s release through Napalm Records.

6. “Hollywood” – Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou

Emma Ruth Rundle teamed up with sludge metallers Thou for a companion EP, ‘The Helm of Sorrow’. The EP being released on January 15th will include 4 songs, one of them being this crushing cover of the Cranberries’ “Hollywood”. The diehard version of their LP collaboration ‘May Our Chambers Be Full’, will also include the songs on this EP. Both are available for preorder and you can grab a copy here.
