Best New Heavy Songs of February 2023

February 28, 2023

As VV tradition goes, the end of the month means one thing. It’s time to celebrate our favorite new rock and metal releases by headbanging to the Best New Heavy Songs of February 2023. So whether you’re moshing in your living room or blasting this playlist on your way to work, remember to protect the neck while the music takes you over.

And as always, there’s a little something for everyone in this playlist. From new Megadeth and Butcher Babies, to the collaborative track between Kreator and Lamb of God, there’s plenty of bangers from bands we all know and love. But there’s also plenty of new songs from emerging bands and solos artists you’ll want to keep up with, like the latest from Gideon, Summoning the Lich, and Delilah Bon.

All of that and more is waiting for you to heabang to in my New Music Monthly Spotify playlist below:

As always, some songs and/or bands from this month’s playlist have also been added to some of my other playlists like Underground Metal and Metal Women.

Best New Heavy Songs of February 2023: Monthly Highlights

“Loom” – After Smoke Clears

I’m always looking forward to new music from After Smoke Clears. Especially since they seem to come back heavier and more explosive with each release. And their newest track, “Loom” is no exception to that. It’s so magnetically heavy, that it feels like being struck by a lightning bolt. ASC has been experimenting with clean vocals on more recent previously released tracks. But “Loom” has the most prominent clean/harsh vocal mix of the band’s releases so far. Proving that the band is always honing in on their sound to give fans something new and exciting, while never losing what first attracted them to ASC in the first place.

After Smoke Clears has a new 6-track EP on the horizon for 2023, and “Loom” comes off of that. While we’re waiting to hear the rest of the EP, listen to their other releases, pick up some merch, or watch their latest videos here.

“Blood For Blood” – All Against

And speaking of heavy returns, All Against also came roaring back this month, literally, with “Blood For Blood”. This new release is speedy and brutally heavy, brimming with an intense, headbanging fury. All Against really brought it all with this one including mind bending, winding riffs that suck you into a tornado of pulse pounding, pit worthy sounds that will leave you wanting more.  “Blood For Blood” will also be on the band’s upcoming album. In the meantime, watch the video for this heavy new track below!

“The Sacrifice” – Worship The Sacrifice

Worship the Sacrifice also made their monstrously heavy return this month with “The Sacrifice”. And to put it simply, this is their best song yet. There’s this perfect blend of melodic, almost ballad like elements that give a gloomy tone to the song. But it still keeps it as brutal as a death metal track should. Check out the band’s website for upcoming show announcements, headbang to their previous releases, and more.

“Ascend” – The Enemy Within

At first listen, The Enemy Within’s new single may hook you with its catchy, headbanger approved instrumentals. That coupled with the smooth vocals on “Ascend” immediately draws you in. And before you know it, you’ll find yourself belting along too. But as your listening continues, “Ascend” pulls you in deeper than expected with its dark, emotive and hypnotically heavy undertones. “Ascend” is the first track the North Georgia based band have released so far this year. However it does follow other solid single releases from 2022, like “Victory Position” (which you can headbang to on my Underground Metal Playlist BTW.) “Spice I (Coagulate) – Kargyr

Solo artist Kargyr made his return this month with a new song that lives up to its name. “Spice I (Coagulate)” opens with mysterious instrumentals that suck you into Kargyr’s relentlessly heavy world. And don’t worry, he brought all the spicy heaviness you could ask for with this new underground track. And if you’re new to Kargyr, I highly recommend checking out his other releases too.
