A Good Leather Jacket: Everything You Should Know

November 14, 2020

It’s no secret that fall is my favorite time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer. But I just can’t help but love sweater weather. Once things started to cool off here in the North East, I couldn’t wait to bust out the right clothes for it. The first thing I reached for was my leather jacket. It’s one of my favorite pieces and a complete wardrobe necessity. During this time of year, everyone needs a good leather jacket.

Should A Good Leather Jacket Be Faux or Real Leather?

Honestly, it doesn’t matter. While I’m not completely vegetarian (yet), I still personally prefer to go with faux leather because of my stance on animal cruelty. I have known people throughout my life that have insisted if you’re buying leather products it has to be real or the quality will not be as good. Frankly, that’s just not true based on my experience. I will say though whether you’re buying faux or real leather, it all really comes down to the quality of the product itself.

Things To Consider When Shopping

Shopping can be frustrating, especially when you’re looking for something specific. It’s also easy to get overwhelmed and trying to find the best deal only adds to that. The are two things I always consider when buying any product.

Does The Quality Match The Price I’m Paying?

I love fashion, but I’m also on a budget and need to be practical. Leather Jackets can be pricey, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of money. My current jacket that I love cost me $125 (plus shipping and taxes). While it’s made of faux leather, it’s not coming from a big box store. The brand also is known for having high quality products, so I felt the price was fair.

Prior to getting this jacket though, I had a cropped leather jacket that I got on sale for around $25 at Forever 21. I believe the original price was around $40 or so, probably less based on what’s currently listed online. It had these awesome studs on it and I wore it to death until about 2 years ago. I wore it every chance I got, even to my corporate office job. In total, it lasted me about 5 years I think until I had to let it go.

Is the Source a Good Leather Jacket Brand and/or Are They a Trusted Brand?

This one more so applies to online shopping, which many of us have been doing a lot more of during this crazy year. You always want to make sure no matter what you’re shopping for that it’s coming from a trusted source. If you’re shopping with a new brand for the first time, make sure to check the reviews. I would recommend that even if the brand is known for their leather jackets, or whatever product you’re searching for.

Always remember, a product having 4.5 stars doesn’t mean there aren’t reviews detailing a bad experience. On the other hand, they could also be mostly positive, but may give insight on if it’s true to size, etc. Make sure to read what the reviews say, don’t just go off of the rating you see.

Details On My Leather Jacket

My jacket is the Bad Girl Cropped Motorcycle Jacket In Vegan Leather from Vixen by Micheline Pitt. It’s actually up for preorder now, which is what I did when I ordered mine. Initially this jacket wasn’t supposed to be coming back, so I’d snag one while you have the chance if it’s something you’re interested in.

Since it was a preorder, it did take some time for it arrive. I think it was around 8-10 weeks.

Just as additional info, I am not an affiliate with this brand, I just genuinely love this jacket.
