Game of Thrones warned that Winter would be coming. But they forgot to mention it’s going to be a heavy one. Because when the weather’s cold, snow is falling, and the roads are bad, sometimes the best thing you can do is hunker down with your favorite music and wait for it to pass. That’s where my Winter Metal Playlist comes in.
Metal music is notorious for being associated with all things hell and fire. But on the flip side of that metal coin, you’ll find inspiration, soundscapes, and imagery that stems from intense winters and the bitter, icy cold.
WHAT’S IN MY Winter Metal PLAYLIST?
Black metal is the first subgenre that comes to mind when I think of Winter Metal, with doom as a close second. Fun Fact: The inspiration for this playlist actually came from Monolord’s “I’m Staying Home”, which you’ll hear when you listen along. There’s also a bunch of other artists in here too ranging across all subgenres, so there’s a little something for everyone. And because we love our underground bands here at VV, you’ll find some in here alongside metal heavyweights and other emerging bands.
Recently on my Instagram, I asked what you wanted to hear on my winter metal playlist. So you’ll hear those requests too! Some songs stick to the winter theme directly, while others are bands or songs that you requested because they remind you of winter.
