Top New Metal Songs of April 2022 [New Music Monthly]

April 30, 2022

April 2022 was a month full of surprises for the heavy music community. Not only were there many exciting new tour announcements, like Meshuggah and The Acacia Strain. But there were also some new music surprises for fans like single releases from Municipal Waste, a Megadeth/Lamb of God cover of “Wake Up Dead”, and even an entire album from 3rd Secret, the latest heavy supergroup consisting of members of Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. All of which is included in this month’s edition of the top new metal songs of April 2022.

As always, some songs and/or bands from this month’s playlist have also been added to my Underground Metal playlist. Listen to that here to discover even more underground music that extends well beyond this month’s list of the top new heavy songs of April 2022.

Listen to my New Music Monthly playlist and check out the Monthly Highlights below for more details on some of these new and noteworthy releases. NEW METAL SONGS OF April 2022: MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS

Songs marked with an asterisk (*) are not available on Spotify yet, and as such, they can’t be heard in the playlist.

“Nosophobic” – Krypt

If you were ever curious what I think is a perfect recipe for a heavy song, Krypt’s “Nosophobic” is it. I love this new wave of thrash metal in the modern heavy scene that we see with bands like Krypt, Extinction A.D., and Enforced. To simply call “Nosophobic” a banger would be an understatement, although that’s definitely one descriptor of this heavy new track. As someone recently commented on one of my Instagram posts, this is the kind of music that makes you want to run through a wall. It’s something that headbangers like myself find essential, and if you’re like me, Krypt is a band you’ll want in your regular rotation.

Krypt are set to head back into the studio later this year to record their full length record, which will be mixed and mastered by Alex Para, who also worked on Sadistic Ritual’s latest album. (Speaking of which, you’ll find Sadistic Ritual on this month’s NMM playlist too!) In the meantime, check out Krypt’s previous releases on these platforms.

“The Forsaken Idol” – Bloodhunter feat. Rosalía Sairem

If you’re a fan of bands like Nervosa and Burning Witches, you’ll love Blood Hunter and their new single “The Forsaken Idol”. While the majority of this song features the viciously harsh vocals of Diva Satánica (also of Nervosa), it also includes a guest, melodic performance from Therion’s Rosalía Sairem.  Thus, making “The Forsaken Idol” an absolute beast and powerhouse of a song. But that’s not all, between the pulse pounding drums and riffs that soar, “The Forsaken Idol” is sure to have you banging your head. According to Bloodhunter, this song “talks about idolatry from the point of view of the idolized”. The band has also released an equally epic video for the track which you can watch here.

You can also find this dark and heavy new track on my Metal Women playlist. That’s where you’ll  discover the work of even more amazing women in metal on all instruments. Listen to it here.

“Manta” – The Second Fovea

“Manta” is a song that immediately caught my attention with its mysterious, sultry feel. It’s hard to not be completely engulfed by “Manta” thanks to its mesmerizing riffs. But this instrumental track also serves as a way to bring awareness to the importance of marine life. More specifically, the title comes from Manta Rays,  sea creatures that are now an endangered species. Check out The Second Fovea’s visualizer for “Manta” below”, which provides more information on this important issue.

“Coma Sex Life” – Jian*

Since their 2016 inception in a Swiss basement, Jian has been evolving through the worlds of stoner rock/metal and post hardcore. The band’s sound partially reminds me of why I love the grunge era. It’s still wildly heavy, but with a laidback feel. And that’s exactly what you’ll hear in “Coma Sex Life”. This catchy track sticks with you. And before you know it, you’ll be singing along with the chorus. You won’t find Jian’s “Coma Sex Life” on this month’s NMM Spotify playlist. That’s because it’s on their latest album, Sinope, which is out exclusively through Bandcamp. But you can also check it out by watching the band’s official video for “Coma Sex Life” below.
