NMM: New Metal Songs To Start Your Week

August 31, 2020

New Music Monday

Hello and Happy New Music Monday! This week there were so many awesome new metal songs released. Choosing my top 5 was tough, but these new tracks are my favorites this week.

If you really want to start things off on the right note, make sure you listen along with my Spotify playlist. All of these songs are lined up for you there so all you’ll need to do is hit play.

1. “The Death Of Us” – Lamb of God

“The Death Of Us” is off of the new soundtrack that Lamb Of God contributed to for the comedy film Bill & Ted Face the Music. The heavy metal band are still at their best here and this could have easily fit into their 2020 self titled album release. But I mean at this point, can Lamb of God really do any wrong? The answer is no.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is out now in theaters and it’s been 19 years since there has been a new addition to the franchise.

2. “Rufus Lives” – Mastodon

You’ll also find Mastodon on the soundtrack for Bill & Ted Face the Music with this track. “Rufus Lives” sets a dark atmosphere in addition to being intensely and cosmically heavy. One of the best things about Mastodon is how consistent they are with putting out great music. “Rufus Lives” is just another example that proves that, making it a necessity for your playlist this week.

3. “Underneath the Scars” – Kataklysm

“Underneath the Scars” comes from Kataklysm’s new album ‘Unconquered’ which is set to be released on September 25th through Nuclear Blast Records. Because the band’s members live in several different areas, with travel restrictions still in place they could not put out the concept video they intended to for this track. Instead, Kataklysm put together a performance based video that includes unreleased footage from their European headlining tour last year.

This song is a complete banger from beginning to end. I’ve really been loving the new music Kataklysm has released so far and I can’t wait for this release. ‘Unconquered’ is available for preorder here.

4. “Scars” – Fates Warning

Fates Warning recently announced they will be releasing their 13th album ‘Long Day Good Night’ on November 6th via Metal Blade Records. “Scars” is the first track that the progressive metal band has released for this album. This song booms while Ray Adler’s vocals soar and it’s just simply amazing. While we’re waiting for their new album to be released, you can preorder it here.

5. “Parasite” – DED

“Parasite” is the latest single DED has dropped that’s getting fans ready for their upcoming sophomore album. While they haven’t released any further details yet, it will be released through Suretone Records. If you caught their 2017 debut album ‘Mis-An-Thrope’, you probably already know that the Arizona band has some catchy songs. Not only have I been impromptu singing “Parasite” all weekend, but it’s definitely one of their heavier tracks. While DED has kept their sound from their first release, I think this track shows that they’ve even further developed it. I really like where they’re going with this track and I hope we’ll hear more from them like this on their new release.
