What a week for the heavy music world! Somebody must have let the word out that my birthday was last Thursday, because this week there was a ton of awesome new metal songs released. I was able to narrow it down as far as I could. There is 1 additional song this week, bringing the total to 6, because there is no way I could not share all of these songs with you guys. This week Heathen brings us some new thrash with “Sun in My Hand”. We also have new gothic doom from Draconian, in addition to 4 other seriously heavy tracks.
Don’t forget that you can listen along with my Spotify playlist. All of these songs are lined up for you there so all you’ll need to do is hit play.
1. “Genesis” – Deftones
“Genesis” is the 2nd track Deftones have dropped for their upcoming album ‘Ohms’ due out this Friday via Warner Records. This is definitely one of their heavier tracks, especially in comparison to the album’s title track released a few weeks ago. Needless to say, both songs released so far are incredible and this album was an instant preorder for me. If you’re looking to pick up a copy for yourself, you can preorder it here.
2. “Contagion” – Napalm Death
“Contagion” comes from Napalm Death’s new album ‘Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism’. This monster of a track is brutally explosive and demolishes anything standing in it’s way. ‘Throes’ is the British grindcore band’s 16th album, and their first full length release in 5 years. It’s out now through Century Media and you can order it here.
3. “The Long and Winding Bier Road” – Carcass
Carcass initially planned to release their new album ‘Torn Arteries’ in 2020. Unfortunately, it’s release has been delayed due to Covid, so the band has decided to release a 4 track EP instead. The new EP, ‘Despicable’, is set to be released on October 30th through Nuclear Blast. It will include this track as well as the band’s prior single release “The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue”. ‘Despicable’ will be the band’s first collection of new music in 7 years. It’s not something you want to miss and if you’re looking to preorder it, you can do so here.
4. “Deliverance” – Fight the Fight
“Deliverance” is the title track from Fight the Fight’s new album, available everywhere now through Blacklight Media Records and Indie Recordings. This is a song I just kept coming back to all weekend, and each time I loved it more than the last. It’s aggressive with a darkly heavy atmosphere and it’s that continued combination that makes for an incredibly catchy chorus. You can order ‘Deliverance’ here and don’t forget to follow them on Instagram to stay up to date on their future releases.
5. “Sun in My Hand” – Heathen
I’ve thought about how I would introduce this to you a million times because this song just makes my heart swoon. There are so many cool things about this track, but the guitar solo towards the end is so stellar I can’t stop thinking about it. And that’s just to start! “Sun in My Hand” is from Heathen’s new album ‘Empire of the Blind’ which was recently released through Nuclear Blast. This is the 4th album for the Bay Area thrashers following a 10 year pause on new music. ‘Empire of the Blind’ is available now and you can grab yourself a copy here.
6. “Moon Over Sabaoth” – Draconian
Draconian is back with another impeccable doom track, “Moon Over Sabaoth”, from their upcoming album ‘Under a Godless Veil’. Draconian’s haunting atmosphere is only further enhanced by their blend of melody and heaviness. The only problem with this track is that I am even more so now desperately waiting for Draconian’s new album to be released. It won’t be out until October 30th, but in the meantime you can preorder it here.
