Hello and Happy New Music Monday! I am super excited to announce that the usual corresponding Spotify playlist has now been turned into a podcast! This way you don’t have to wait until you get home to get all of the info on these new releases and can hear it while you’re on the go. You can listen to today’s episode with The Versatile Virgo Podcast here on Spotify. This week we’re jamming to Liha’s new single “Fake” as well as a bunch of other heavy tracks, so I hope you are ready to headbang!

NEW MUSIC MONDAY PLAYLIST FOR THE WEEK OF 3/8/21:

NMM 3.8.21 w/ "Fake" and more

Before we get started, don’t forget that you can listen along with today’s New Music Monday podcast episode here. It has all of these songs lined up for you so you can just hit play.

1. “Mars Simula” – Chevelle

Chevelle just recently dropped their new album NIRATIAS (Nothing Is Real and This Is A Simulation), which is where you’ll find this heavy new track. “Mars Simula” is one of those songs that you start headbanging to and don’t even realize it. When that “I’m on the way to Mars” hits as hard as it does, you just can’t help it. Not to mention the song has amazingly sweet, heavy riffs throughout. “Mars Simula” is not only one of Chevelle’s best new songs, it’s one of the best songs in their entire discography. NIRATIAS is available everywhere now and if you have not heard it, I highly recommend you check it out. You can stream it or buy it here.

2. “Black Dust” – Acid Mammoth

I love some heavy stoner doom, and Acid Mammoth’s new album, Caravan, is exactly what I’ve been craving. “Black Dust” is my favorite track off of their new release. It has a dark and gloomy atmosphere around it that just swallows you with it’s beautifully heavy and hypnotic riffs. To me, “Black Dust” is a perfect song. If you’re a fan of the genre, you will love Acid Mammoth’s new album Caravan, especially if you’re a fan of this track. Caravan and its merch bundles can be ordered here if you’re in the United States and here if you’re outside of the U.S.

3. “My Venom” – Cvlt Ov the Svn

If Cvlt Ov the Svn’s “My Venom” doesn’t make you want to bang your head, I don’t know what will especially with that killer opening. It’s hauntingly eerie, yet completely entrancing. “My Venom” comes off of the band’s first full length album We Are the Dragon, which is due out on May 7th. Preorder it here.

4. “Fake” – Liha

Finnish metal band, Liha, has been busy working on new music for their upcoming EP. This week they’re back with a new, high energy single, “Fake”. Depicting the modern day definition of vanity, it’s a song about those seeking acceptance and influence from social media by faking their way into fame. Liha also dropped a hilarious new music video to accompany the single. The band plays the part of the fake influencers who rent a limo they can’t afford and drink champagne in someone else’s jacuzzi. Check out the video for “Fake” below:

Liha also dropped a trap style remix of the song. You can check that out here on their youtube channel.

5. “Possession” – Mephobia

When the first lockdown hit Austria in March 2020, Mephobia took the opportunity to start producing their debut album, Reign of the Degenerates. “Possession” is the first adrenaline filled track the Viennese death-thrashers have released so far and it’s one that will make you bang your head. Mephobia also recently released their 2nd heavy new single “The Flesh Is Weak” and are set to drop 2 others, giving us lots to look forward to! Reign of the Degenerates is due out on April 18th. You can also pick up some Mephobia merch here on bandcamp.

6. “The Path of Wrath” – Wolf King

Wolf King’s brutally heavy new album, The Path of Wrath, brings us some much needed blackened death hardcore. This is one of those songs that makes you envision how insanely awesome it will be live. It’s full of adrenaline and raw intensity. The Path of Wrath is available everywhere now. You can order it or stream it here.
