February 2022 may have been an intense ride. But thankfully we had intensely heavy music released to give us some comfort along the way. This month’s list of the top new metal songs of February 2022 sums it up in the best way possible. And I have to admit, this edition of New Music Monthly includes so many personal favorites of mine.
For starters, Extinction A.D. is quickly working their way to becoming one of my new favorite bands. They’ve been pretty consistent at releasing high energy, beastly music that’s so heavy it feels like a punch in the chest. And for those of you new to metal, just know that’s a good thing. A great thing actually. But “1992”, the latest Extinction A.D. single, might just be my favorite song from the band yet.
And speaking of favorites, you absolutely must hear the new Oceans of Slumber song, “The Waters Rising”! If you missed it, you can watch my Youtube review of this song here.
Also on this month’s playlist of the top new metal songs of February 2022, you’ll find even more metal collaborations, a trend we’ve been seeing a lot of since last Summer. “Cold Blood” , the new collaborative song between HEALTH and Lamb of God, is another one that you shouldn’t miss. It’s monstrously heavy while blending in this melodic, atmospheric element to it that makes for a really cool song. If you liked Lamb of God’s “Memento Mori”, you will want to check it out. Besides being on this month’s New Music Monthly, you’ll also find it on my Winter Metal Playlist.
That blend of music seems to be a trend for metal in the 2020’s. Especially with bands like Vein.FM and Cane Hill becoming increasingly more popular, we’re certainly seeing an evolution in what modern heavy music sounds like. All of which is waiting for you to headbang to below!

All of the artists in this month’s highlights have also been added to my Underground Metal playlist. Listen to it here.
“Wake Up The World” – Worship The Sacrifice
Worship the Sacrifice made a deeply heavy return this month with their new single, “Wake Up The World”. As the title suggests, the song presents a somber call to action that features an impressive guitar solo and an anthem-like chorus fit for the times. “Wake Up The World” plays with a different vocal style than I think we’re used to with Worship The Sacrifice. It’s a nice added element to their already dark and viciously aggressive sound. I love the direction Worship The Sacrifice is going in, and I hope to hear more of this from them in the future. Listen to Worship the Sacrifice and pick up some merch here.
“The Third Eye” – Mani_ac
Solo metaller Mani_ac also delivered another banger this month with “The Third Eye”, where he also teamed up with co-vocalist and co-lyricist Galaatah. Bursting with energy, “The Third Eye” roars with fury and rage. This song is wildly vicious and intense, almost like you’re thrown in a cage match. Needless to say, I think it’s impossible NOT to bang your head to “The Third Eye”. Listen to this song and Mani_ac’s previous releases on Spotify.
“Swale In Extremis” – Swamp
Swamp ended February on a intensely heavy note with their latest release, “Swale In Extremis”. This is technically a double single, as the band also released an instrumental track called “Clown Dream”, which I had to include on this month’s playlist too. Swamp says, “We tried our hand at something a bit more chaotic and all over the place on this one. Recording with John Howard made it a breeze. We really wish he wouldn’t have attacked our self esteem but he’s so damn good we couldn’t really do anything about it. Also, this is Aidan’s first time on the mic! $5 to whoever knows what the B-side is.” (Here’s a hint.)
Both tracks feature what I think makes Swamp such a cool band. Those pulse pounding drums, wildly perfect riffs, and vocals that roar from the deepest, darkest depths of Florida are what make Swamp a band to watch, and “Swale In Extremis” a must in your regular rotation. Listen to Swamp here on Spotify.
“Eleven” – Blind Hex
Mexico’s Blind Hex also dropped their first new single of 2022 with “Eleven”. Blind Hex has been pretty consistent at releasing beautifully heavy symphonic metal since they first made their debut with “Sorrowless”. (A track that was voted by you as one of the Best Songs of 2021 by the way!). “Eleven” continues the band’s momentum, offering another look at what we can expect from their debut album. The song depicts a sense of loneliness, fueled by a powerful vocal performance from Sharon Portilla, and emotion filled instrumentals. With the release of “Eleven”, Sharon and Fede d’Empaire have solidified themselves as a powerhouse duo ready to take the heavy music world by storm. Watch the video for “Eleven” and listen to all of Blind Hex’s singles on Spotify.
“Quantum Relay” – OG EZ OR
French cyber metallers OG EZ OR are set to release a new album, Distortion Process, this spring. “Quantum Relay” is the first glimpse the band gives us for what’s to come. This song is atmospheric and futuristic, with an apocalyptic feel. If you’re a fan of bands like Rammstein as well as electronic music, “Quantum Relay” is sure to be one of your new favorite songs. Sci-Fi Lovers rejoice! This song is calling your name! “Quantum Relay” isn’t available on Spotify yet so you won’t find it in the NMM playlist. But listen to it on Bandcamp or YouTube.
