“Psychic Wound” – King Woman
King Woman recently announced she will release her second album Celestial Blues on July 30th and I’m beyond excited for it! “Psychic Wound” comes off of that and frankly, it’s everything I want in a song. It’s doomy, it’s kind of sultry, and most importantly, it’s heavy. Relapse Records says, “Feeling compelled to reshape the biblical archetypes that once bound her, [songwriter and vocalist, Kris] Esfandiari has created a theatrical tale of rebellion, tragedy, and triumph — a metaphor for her own personal experiences over the years — Celestial Blues was born.” Preorder King Woman’s forthcoming album, Celestial Blues, here.
“The Purge” – Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders
There hasn’t been a song yet from Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders that I haven’t loved since they made their debut in late 2020. That’s no different this week, as they return with the heaviest single so far, “The Purge”. I was already excited for this song to drop after seeing the teasers on Instagram because I could just tell it was going to be awesome. But “The Purge” totally blew my expectations out of the water as far how heavy this track gets. Vocally, the song still has those melodic elements that Jason does so well, but the screams here are so explosively wild they blew my mind. Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders are set to release a music video soon for “The Purge”, which was filmed at The Underworld Camden. “Deadlock” – Once Human feat. Robb Flynn
Former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader has reunited with his old bandmate, Robb Flynn, for the new once Once Human single, “Deadlock”. This banger of an anthem is the song we all need right now and it demands to be played LOUD. “Deadlock” marks the first new music from Once Human since their 2019 single, “Slegehammer“. It will be on their upcoming record, Scar Weaver, which drops February 11, 2022. Pre-save it here.
“Misfit” – Ashes to Emperor feat. Lizzie Kristina
Ashes to Emperor are also back this week with a heavy new anthem, “Misfit” featuring a stellar vocal performance from Lizzie Kristina. “Misfit” is aggressive and melodic, while pulling you into a hypnotically haunting atmosphere. Ashes to Emperor also released a lyric video here on Youtube that’s worth noting too. I typically don’t point out lyric videos because they’re usually very basic. However, the lyric video for “Misfit” is put together almost like an actual music video and it’s a really cool piece that actually keeps your attention. “Misfit” is the first new single we’re hearing from Ashes to Emperor since their album Inside the Darkness was released in April. Listen to their prior releases here.
“In Our Heads” – Defocus
Defocus just dropped their new album In The Eye of Death We Are All The Same, which is where you can find this heavy new track. “In Our Heads” has an intense, no holds barred energy that you can’t help but bang your head to. In The Eye of Death We Are All The Same is available everywhere now. Purchase it or stream it here.
