Don’t forget to headbang with me on today’s episode of The Versatile Virgo Podcast, which is where you can hear the songs listed below. That’s also the only place you’ll hear today’s Mystery Bonus Track From The Past. Make sure to tune in to find out what it is and why we’re talking about it.
“Breathing Rage” – Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders feat. Andy Martongelli
I had a very hard time picking which song I would be featuring from Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders’s new EP, The Abyss. Because, frankly, it’s one of my favorite releases of the year so far. I ultimately went with “Breathing Rage”, though, because it’s such a very high energy track that really encapsulates the overall feel of The Abyss. With a dark and classic metal feel, “Breathing Rage” quite literally takes you on an adrenaline ride through the abyss. It’s melodic and aggressive with catchy riffs, explosive drumming, and a chorus that will have you singing, screaming, and headbanging along. The Abyss is available to stream on these platforms. The band also recently started a patreon, where fans can subscribe to monthly exclusive content and rewards.
“Zero Killed” – Sense of Noise feat. Bjorn “Speed” Strid
“Zero Killed” is the third single Mexico’s Sense of Noise have released since making their debut earlier this year. The melodic death metal band teamed up with Soilwork vocalist, Björn “Speed” Strid, for this speedy, banger of an anthem. Björn can also be seen in the video for this heavy new track which can be seen here on the band’s YouTube channel. “Zero Killed” comes off of the upcoming, debut album from Sense of Noise, which drops October 1st. In the meantime, listen to their previous releases and keep up with them on social media here.
“Breaking Chains” – Spare The Dead
Arkansas’s Spare The Dead uses a blend a of multiple sub-genre influences to to produce their deeply heavy and intense sound. That’s especially true for their newest track, “Breaking Chains”, which will have you pounding your fist and banging your head. “Breaking Chains” is the first single Spare The Dead have released this year, which follows their 2020 debut, “Pyromaniac”. This is only just the beginning for this new metal band, so keep your eyes peeled for other singles and an album release later this year. In the meantime, listen to their previous/current releases here.
“Death To The Crooked” – Kasck
India based thrashers Kasck are set to release their upcoming EP, Deal With The Devil, later this year. “Death To The Crooked” comes off of that, bringing a fast and aggressively heavy thrash attack to the table. If you’re a fan of bands like Exodus, especially albums like Tempo of The Damned, you will love “Death To The Crooked”. Kasck also released an equally intense music video for this new song. Watch it here on their Youtube channel.
“Antigone” – Juanjo Alvarez
Mexican composer and musician Juanjo Alvarez just recently released a new album, Pastor Alemán II. There’s a lot of really cool stuff going on throughout the record with a mix of different elements, including folk and jazz influences. It very much has a Faith No More vibe to it, which is something we don’t hear often from new metal artists. That’s just one of many reasons why I love Pastor Alemán II, especially, “Antigone”. This song has a more of a grunge feel to it, while still keeping things super heavy. Not to mention, it features one of my favorite riffs on the record. Listen to Pastor Alemán II on Spotify or purchase the digital album on bandcamp.
