What an exciting month it has been for heavy music! Between the first glimpse of highly anticipated new music from Slipknot, and epic collaborations like the one between Carnifex and Oceano’s Adam Warren, July was a month for the record books. And of course, this month’s list of the top new heavy songs of July 2022 highlights all of those tracks that you don’t want to miss.
As always, some songs and/or bands from this month’s playlist have also been added to some of my other playlists like Underground Metal and Metal Women.

NEW HEAVY SONGS OF JULY 2022: MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS
“Shitlist” – No Coffin
Look, I know I’ve been talking a lot about No Coffin and their new EP, Hell Above. But I can’t help it okay?! Especially when it houses one of my absolute favorite songs of 2022 so far, “Shitlist”. The main riff is so damn catchy it kind of makes you want to dance, but it’s still thrashy, sludgy, and death metal-y. So essentially, “Shitlist” is entirely No Coffin at their finest. “Spearmint Revolt” – Norma Jean
There’s actually two new tracks from Norma Jean on this month’s list. (The other being “Sleep Explosion). While both are great, I’m a bit partial to the headbanging anthem that is “Spearmint Revolt”. If you’re a fan of bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Beartooth, and Motionless In White, this is the track for you. “Spearmint Revolt” comes from Norma Jean’s upcoming album, Deathrattle Sing For Me. Pre-order it before the album drops on August 12th here.
“B.D.S.M.” – Trainwrecked
So as I was getting caught up on my new music listening and sewing, “B.D.S.M.” stopped me dead in my tracks. The lyrics shouting “Guess what? Get fucked” immediately caught my attention, and I was instantly hooked on my new anthem. When I prep this list each month, I put mostly everything on a playlist, so I can blindly listen for what I really like and get rid of what I don’t. Not only did this catch my attention but I had to know what band was behind these monstrously heavy instrumentals and vocals that are just pure insanity. When I realized it was my friends in Trainwrecked, aka the busiest band in Pittsburgh, I was even more pumped to tell you all that they represent MY scene. 😆 “B.D.S.M.” is one of many tracks that you NEED to hear from Trainwrecked’s debut EP, Unhinged.
