Happy Labor Day and Happy New Music Monday! This week we’re exploring the new comeback single from Killer Be Killed as well as new tracks from emerging artists. We’re also diving into the new Corey Taylor single.
If you really want to make this your heaviest labor day yet, make sure you listen along with my Spotify playlist. All of these songs are lined up for you there so all you’ll need to do is hit play.
1. “Deconstructing Self-Destruction” – Killer Be Killed
Following a 6 year silence, Killer Be Killed is back with new music and it is a banger! If this is your first introduction to Killer Be Killed, you may think this song reminds you of Mastodon or The Dillinger Escape Plan. That’s because this is actually a super group consisting of Max Cavalera (Soulfly, formerly of Sepultura), Greg Puciato (formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), and Ben Koller (Converge). Their new album ‘Reluctant Hero’ is scheduled to be released on November 20th via Nuclear Blast Records. In the meantime, you can preorder it here.
2. “Spit or Swallow” – I Revolt
“Spit or Swallow” contains everything a metal fan could want. It has pulse pounding drums, aggressive vocals, electrifying riffs, and a chorus that you can’t help but headbang to. This has actually been one of my go to songs since first hearing it on Friday. I was very surprised to see that I Revolt is currently unsigned, but with music like this it may not stay that way for long. Make sure to give them a follow on Instagram to stay up to date on their newest releases.
3. “Mayday” – Abbie Falls
Another unsigned band based of the Czech Republic, Abbie Falls, just released their 2nd single for 2020 called “Mayday”. This song is so intensely heavy and is right up my alley that it was an instant “add to playlist” for me. While listening without my headphones over the weekend, my husband went out of his way to ask who this was because he also loves this song, despite it not being one of the sub genre’s he usually gravitates towards on a first listen. The band’s Facebook notes they will be releasing their debut EP, ‘No One’s Above’, in the coming months. Don’t forget to also give them a follow on Instagram so you don’t miss out on that release.
4. “HWY 666” – Corey Taylor
“HWY 666” is the third single released off of Corey Taylor’s upcoming solo album ‘CMFT’ and it is my favorite track so far! It’s perfect for the transition into the fall and spooky season, unless you’re like me and spooky season never ends. In which case, it’s perfect for life. This track combines southern rock, metal, and even a little country all rolled into a fast paced, yet haunting atmosphere. The tracks Corey Taylor has released so far have all been very different, so I’m excited to see what else is on this album. ‘CMFT’ is set to be released on October 2nd via Roadrunner Records, but while you’re waiting you can preorder it here.
5. “Pray For Fire” – Oceans of Slumber
As I mentioned in a previous NMM, one of the highlights of my 2020 was finding Oceans of Slumber. This track is off of the band’s self titled album that came out on September 4th via Century Media Records. It starts off slow and you may even be asking yourself “is it heavy”? You’ll find though that it is indeed heavy and extremely powerful. My favorite part is the transition from Cammie Gilbert’s smooth vocals to deep growls leading us into a spoken breakdown of what feels like fury being unleashed. The album is available for you to listen on your favorite streaming platform now. If you are looking for a physical copy, you can preorder it here.
