Over the course of the last few months I’ve been giving you a top 6. This week though, you’re getting a top 7 playlist of the best new heavy tracks of the week because each of these songs are an absolute must listen. Make sure to start your week off right with me by jamming to some new Nervosa and more!
New Music Monday Playlist for 1/25/21: New Nervosa & More!
Before we get started, don’t forget that you can listen along with my Spotify playlist. It has all of these songs lined up for you so you can just hit play.
1. “Smashing the Past” – Ektomorf
Ektomorf is one band I’m really hoping to see once concerts resume. That became even more true after hearing their new album ‘Reborn’ over the weekend. “Smashing the Past” is one of many amazingly heavy new tracks that comes off of that release.
While it’s the last single the band has released, it was actually one of the first songs vocalist/guitarist Zoli Farkas wrote for the new record. The Hungarian thrash metallers are at their best in “Smashing the Past”. It’s a track that’s filled with speedy and intense guitar riffs, booming drums, and viciously aggressive vocals. The best part for me though is the headbang worthy breakdown that leads to a kickass solo. ‘Reborn’ is definitely an album you’ll want to check out if you haven’t heard it yet. Merch and physical copies of the album can be ordered here.
2. “Rebel Soul” – Nervosa feat. Erik “AK” Knutson
For the last few months, I’ve been anxiously waiting for the new Nervosa album, ‘Perpetual Chaos’ to drop. Now that it’s been released, I’ve been jamming to it all weekend. The album is everything I wanted it to be and more. So much so that I had a hard time choosing which new Nervosa song I would be featuring on this week’s playlist.
“Rebel Soul” is one of my favorite songs from this new Nervosa record. The all female thrash metal band teamed up with Flotsam and Jetsam vocalist Erik “AK” Knutson on this heavy new track. It almost has a similar energy to Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”, making it a great way to get that adrenaline pumping – especially on a Monday! If you haven’t heard ‘Perpetual Choas’ in it’s entirety, I highly recommend giving it a listen. You can pick up a copy or some merch here.
3. “Skull Soldiers” – Wolfheart
Finnish melodic death metal band Wolfheart is set to release a new EP, ‘Skull Soldiers’ on March 5th. In anticipation of it’s release the band dropped the EP title track, giving us our first taste of what’s to come. The crushingly heavy track also features guest vocals from Petro Solovey of Wolfganger.
‘Skull Soldiers’ is a follow up to Wolfheart’s 2020 full length album, ‘Wolves of Karelia’. It will include 2 rarity tracks and 2 brand new songs. While we’re waiting for it to be released, you can preorder a copy here.
4. “Bloodstained” – Our Eternity
Fit For A King vocalist, Ryan Kirby, and Currents guitarist, Chris Wiseman, have joined forces for their new project, Our Eternity. “Bloodstained” is the first track that the metalcore supergroup has unveiled. This dark and insanely heavy banger is one you’ll want to make sure is on your Winter playlist. While there’s no word yet on an album, Our Eternity does have merch up for grabs here.
5. “Break” – Dust In Mind
If you’re looking for a song full of emotions that you can also headbang to, “Break” is exactly what you’re looking for. France’s Dust In Mind brings industrial metal into our hearts with this aggressive yet dark and melodic track. It’s definitely one that you’ll have a hard time not singing along to. Dust In Mind is set to release more music in 2021. In the meantime while you’re jamming to this track, you can order the band’s merch and CDs or join them on Patreon here.
6. “All or Nothing” – Moonspell
“All or Nothing” comes off of Moonspell’s forthcoming album ‘Hermitage’, which is set to be released on February 26th. The song is melodic, emotional, and a bit somber. However, it’s also hopeful in a way that only Moonspell can deliver with their pure musicianship. While we’re waiting for ‘Hermitage’ to drop you can preorder it here along with some merch.
7. “Heart in Bloom” – The Soap Girls
“Heart in Bloom” is very different from all of the previous tracks on this list, and it’s slightly more alternative than anything I’ve ever featured. With that being said, every time I hear it I end up saying to whoever will listen what an amazing song it is. And therefore, there was no way I wasn’t going to feature it this week!
While the pandemic has brought the world to a standstill, South African based punk duo, The Soap Girls, have persisted by doing the polar opposite. Not only do they have a virtual tour in full swing right now, but “Heart in Bloom” marks the beginning of their highly anticipated fourth album. In these unprecedented times, “Heart in Bloom” is like a breath of fresh air.
“Heart In bloom is about being apart through distance whether in life or death from the person or persons you love. It’s hard when you can’t be with or see someone who has your heart. Being on tour all the time we were always able to see people we love, but with this madness in the world going on and not being allowed to move around it makes the ache of distance even harder because it’s out of our hands, and so the track is about ensuring that you keep your heart full of hope, as real true love and friendship is a bond that can never break,” says the Soap Girls.
