Daily Reminders Review + 5 Songs That Made Me A Metalhead

February 18, 2022

Norway’s Kingseeker kicked off 2022 with the release of their debut album, Daily Reminders. Opening with the title track, Daily Reminders starts out with a calm, dreamy like atmosphere that feels like an awakening. The tide changes quickly though, with instrumentals that come crashing in like a dark, transformative wave.

This burst of high energy remains present throughout the record, while Kingseeker continues to deliver raw, emotional aggression set to the backdrop of atmospheric metalcore. And while there is a blend of smooth and harsh vocals, they stay relentlessly powerful. Daily Reminders also has a slight nu metal vibe to it, along with some hard rock and even goth/emo elements, which has a larger presence during the album’s melodies.

Plus with so many headbanging anthems on this record, Daily Reminders is an album that makes you just want to mosh. Overall, it’s a really solid effort for the underground metalcore scene. If you’re a fan of bands like Tetrarch, Spiritbox, and Bring Me The Horizon, you won’t want to miss Daily Reminders.

Today, Kingseeker guitarist and founding member, Aaron Veliz, shares with us the 5 songs that made him into the metalhead he is today. 5 SONGS THAT MADE ME A METALHEAD: WITH Kingseeker’s Aaron Veliz

In regards to the songs he chose, Aaron says, “When hearing all [of] these songs, they all gave me a sensation and feeling I had not yet experienced with the music I already listened to. They are the most memorable for being what helped me grow musically. [And, they] all gave me new ways of understanding how to write songs.”

“The Fight Song” – Marilyn Manson

From 2000’s Holy Wood

AV: “My first time listening to music, as I remember [it], was when I was a lot younger. My dad was really into Nirvana and Marilyn Manson, [and] I remember him playing “The Fight Song” by Marilyn Manson. Simple, fast, and heavy. Marilyn Manson is not a great person, but [it’s] still great music.”

“Firefly” – Breaking Benjamin

From 2004’s We Are Not Alone

AV: “My second song would be “Firefly” by Breaking Benjamin. I remember some guys at my school, in 8th grade, were practicing in the school’s basement, trying to cover this song.”

“Chainsaw Gutsfuck” – Mayhem

From 1993’s Deathcrush

AV: “My third song would be during those same years at school, 9th grade, when I discovered a lot of new genres. Many were into Black Metal there as well, and I got introduced to the band Mayhem, and their song “Chainsaw Gutsfuck” from the album Deathcrush.”

“Prison Born” – The Faceless

From 2008‘s Planetary Duality

AV: “My fourth song would be during those same years, when I met Emil (Kingseeker). When he had been at practice with his then current band Disfigured Corpse, now known as Devoid of Life, their drummer showed him The Faceless, with their album Planetary Duality. He then showed it to me. Amazing band! Loved the track ‘Prison Born’.”

“Chelsea Smile” – Bring Me The Horizon

From 2008’s Suicide Season

AV: “My fifth song would be when I found the band Bring Me The Horizon, with their album Suicide Season. And [I] was obsessed with finding similar bands in that style, like the older Architects, but the track “Chelsea Smile” changed my music interests the most.”

“Those were some of the many tracks that got me into the music I like and listen to today, and what inspires me still to this day” says Aaron.
