Best New Metal Music September 2021: Monthly Highlights
“…Smokey Joe” – Dead Slow
“Fire Is The Cleanser” – No Coffin
Miami’s No Coffin just released their new EP, All Life Must End, which bangs from start to finish. “Fire Is The Cleanser” is my favorite track off of that release. It has this no holds barred style heaviness and grittiness to it that just makes it absolutely brutal. I had the opportunity to talk to vocalist/bassist “Chip” Shomburg about the new EP and more. Read our chat here and listen to All Life Must End on these platforms.
“Sacred Destinies” – Subfire*
Define The Sinner is the newly released album from the Greek heavy/power metal band Subfire. “Sacred Destinies” is the album’s epic opener. This monstrous track explores different rhythms, ranging from super speedy to slow and steady. My favorite part about this track though has to be the main riff. Stream or order Subfire’s new album Define The Sinner here on Bandcamp. (*Please note this song is not included in the corresponding playlist since it is not listed on Spotify at the time of this blog post. It is, however, listed in the poll below).
“Coward’s Song” – Anchors
Norwegian metalcore band Anchors kicked off September with the release of their debut album, When Hell Feels Like Home. It’s filled with 10 tracks that will have you banging your head while you sing/scream along. That includes “Born Blind” which you may remember from Unsigned & Unleashed, as well as this heavy new track. From the second the main riff starts, I couldn’t help but immediately start headbanging to “Coward’s Song”, kind of like a reflex. But as I said in that edition of U&U, Anchors makes music that’s made for the pit. So those headbanging reflexes are totally normal. If you’re a fan of bands like While She Sleeps and Currents, you won’t want to miss When Hell Feels Like Home. Listen to the new Anchors album on Spotify or Soundcloud.
“Library of Tears” – Ancient Settlers
Ancient Settlers are set to release a new album produced by Fredrik Nordstrom after they recently signed with Crusader Records. “Library of Tears” gives us our first taste for what’s to come from this melodic death metal band, and it’s awesome. The band says, “‘Library of Tears’ offers a perspective about the dark side of our society and the decadence of our species.” Powerfully heavy and aggressive, this song features a mesmerizing blend of sounds and rhythms. To those that think subgenres using keyboards and synths can’t be as “heavy” as the others without, “Library of Tears” will prove you wrong. Listen to “Library of Tears” on these platforms.
“Amnesia” – Deliverance GM*
September also brought us some seriously heavy groove from Australia’s Deliverance GM with this new track. “Amnesia”, which is currently only available on YouTube, made its debut via a claymation style music video created by the band members themselves. This is the type of catchy track that you can’t help but headbang to. Watch the music video for “Amnesia” below and check out Deliverance GM’s Facebook page for updates on what’s next for the band. (*Please note this song is not included in the corresponding playlist since it is not listed on Spotify at the time of this blog post. It is, however, listed in the poll below).
