New Metal Songs of November 2021: Monthly Highlights
“Welcome” – After Smoke Clears
Slipknot can be a difficult band to cover. There is a certain expectation that comes with their songs that even the band’s newer music is compared to. But London’s After Smoke Clears nailed it with their cover of Slipknot’s “Welcome”. This single release is a tribute to pay respect to the band’s fallen members Joey Jordison and Paul Gray. The band also released an equally brutal and intense visualiser which you can watch here on their YouTube channel. Listen to After Smoke Clears or pick up some merch here.
“War Within” – Sense of Noise
Mexico’s Sense of Noise released their debut, self titled album this month. That’s where you’ll find this heavy new track. “War Within” is one of the standout tracks from the album for me because it has a bit of everything. Between the melodic and harsh vocals, booming drums, and hypnotizing riffs, it’s a must listen for melodic death metal fans. “War Within” is a powerhouse of a track that’s full of energy. The band’s new album also includes their previous single “Zero Killed” feat. Björn “Speed” Strid which was voted as one of the best songs of the year so far. Listen to Sense of Noise or grab yourself some official merch here.
“Stained Remains” – Opensight
Opensight is currently releasing a string of singles before their next full length album. “Stained Remains”, their latest release, has a spooky feel to it just like the name suggests. The songs opens with an intro fit for a 60’s beach horror movie before exploding with musical jump scares amid movie score traits like orchestration and synth lines. “Stained Remains” is a fun listen, especially for vintage horror lovers. Watch the video for “Stained Remains”, pick up some merch or presave their upcoming single here.
“Thalassophobia” – Blessings of Mara
London’s Blessings of Mara explores the fear of the open water in their newest single, “Thalassophobia”. But this song doesn’t just dip its feet in the water. In “Thalassophobia”, the metalcore band goes deep inside a blend of fearful thoughts about being lost at sea which serves as a metaphor for one’s thoughts in everyday life. When it came to writing this song, the band says they “focused on telling a story, showing the calm before the storm as the panic slowly sets in, which builds up into a sense of peace, a feeling of coming to terms with a fate that is out of your control and nicely ends the journey, culminating in a ‘full circle’ story.” “Thalassophobia” has everything from smooth and melodic moments to those that are dark and heavy. Listen to Blessings of Mara on these platforms.
