Before we get into the facts about Master of Puppets that you should know, let’s talk about the band merch of the week and the outfit created around it.

The Basics

Metallica Tank Top

This officially licensed Metallica Master of Puppets tank top has more of an athletic cut with a relaxed fit. Therefore, it’s perfect for athleisure or you could dress it up. Here, I’ve done a little of both, keeping comfort as my number one priority. Loudtrax also has a bunch of other band merch over on their site and all of it is officially licensed.

WHAT TO WEAR WITH THIS METALLICA RIDE THE LIGHTNING TANK TOP

I paired this Metallica tank top with my Constellation Leggings from Rogue + Wolf. I had been eyeing these up on their website for a while before finally purchasing them. I’m so glad I did because I absolutely love their constellation design! My favorite pair of boots from Killstar also pair perfectly with them, which is what I did in this look.

Since it’s still pretty cold here in the North East, I added my husband’s jean jacket for some warmth. Because this outfit overall is pretty relaxed, I chose to pepper in some bolder accessories to dress it up.

2. Master of Puppets is the last Metallica album with legendary bassist, Cliff Burton.

This was due to a tour bus accident overseas that resulted in Cliff’s passing. His iconic bass notes from the middle section of “Orion” are tattooed on James Hetfield’s left arm.

3. The second pressing of Master Of Puppets included a sticker trolling the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC).

Because the PMRC insisted all albums include a sticker warning about explicit lyric content, Metallica chose to comply in the most metal way possible. Their sticker on the 2nd pressing read: “‘The only track you probably won’t want to play is Damage Inc., due to multiple use of the infamous ‘F’ word. Otherwise there aren’t any ‘shits’, ‘fucks’, ‘pisses’, ‘c**ts’, mutherfuckers’ or ‘cocksuckers’ anywhere on this record’.”

4. The inspiration for the title “Leper Messiah” came from the David Bowie song “Ziggy Stardust”.

On the podcast One on One With Mitch Lafon, Kirk Hammett explained the title “Leper Messiah” was inspired by Bowie’s lyrics in the song which includes the line “making love with his ego, Ziggy sucked up into his mind like a leper messiah”.

5. “Orion” was never played live- until Metallica’s 2006 Escape From the Studio Tour.

To celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary, Metallica played all of Master of Puppets in its entirety.
