Happy New Music Monday Everyone! Thrash is one of my favorite subgenres of metal, if not my all time favorite. Unfortunately, new thrash metal doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves. Unless you’re listening to Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal, that is.
You could also say the same for thrash metal bands outside of the Big 4. Many of them you might find to be completely under the radar if you rely on the local radio for new music. And how do you know to search for them online if you’ve never even heard of them? That’s why this week I’m super excited to bring you a BUNCH of awesome new thrash metal from bands that aren’t the Big 4.
NMM Playlist 11/23/20: New Thrash Metal & More
Before we get started, don’t forget that you can listen along with my Spotify playlist. It has all of these songs lined up for you so you can just hit play.
1. “Filthy Vagabond” – Killer Be Killed
Killer Be Killed’s new album ‘Reluctant Hero’ has so many amazing songs that it’s definitely a contender for AOTY. “Filthy Vagabond” is one of my favorites off of that release. It’s lightning fast while almost giving off an old school Motörhead vibe that just makes you want to jam. ‘Reluctant Hero’ is available everywhere now though Nuclear Blast. Grab yourself a copy here.
2. “Miami Supercops” – Gama Bomb
Irish thrash metal band Gama Bomb is set to drop their new album ‘Sea Savage’ on December 4th. “Miami Supercops” comes off of that release, bringing the infectious energy that you only find with bands like Anthrax. The track is an ode to the band’s love of classic cop movies. It was also inspired by the 1985 Italian comedy of the same name. While we’re waiting for Gama Bomb’s new album to be released through Prosthetic Records, you can preorder or presave it here.
3. “Bleed the Crown” – Angelus Apatrida
Spain’s Angelus Apatrida also delivered some killer new thrash with “Bleed the Crown”. It’s the first single and video they’ve released from their self titled album due out on February 5, 2021 via Century Media. “Bleed the Crown” is powerful, fast, and surrounded by darkness. If you’re a fan of Testament, you will probably like this song.
Angelus Apatrida’s new album is available for preorder now. You can pick up a copy here on Century Media’s website.
4. “Friendly Fire” – Sodom
Sodom will also be dropping their new album ‘Genesis XIX’ on November 27 through eOne and Steamhammer. “Friendly Fire” is the latest single and video the thrash metal titans have given us while we wait. From the second it starts, you’re immediately sucked in on this brutal, adrenaline filled ride. Vocalist and bassist, Tom Angelripper, has said it’s his favorite song from the album. You can preorder or presave ‘Genesis XIX’ here.
5. “Perpetual Chaos” – Nervosa
Nervosa might just have become one of my favorite bands this weekend. “Perpetual Chaos” is the title track off of their upcoming album due out on January 22, 2021 via Napalm Records. The all female thrash metal band brings a deeply ferocious intensity that is simply unmatched. It’s dark, it’s vicious, and if you’re new to metal, it might even scare you. But if it does, it still leaves you craving more because it’s just that freaking good.
After hearing “Perpetual Chaos” for the first time this weekend, I actually then went back and listened to Nervosa’s discography. I just couldn’t get enough. If you’re new to Nervosa or you’re just looking for something REALLY heavy, I recommend you do the same. You can also preorder the band’s new album and pick up some merch here.
6. “The Power Ballad of Freyr” – HJELVIK
HJELVIK brings us some Viking heavy metal with his new debut album, ‘Welcome to Hel’. “The Power Ballad of Freyr” comes off of that. There’s so many things this song does right, but the main riff and guitar solo take it to another level. It’s definitely a song you can’t help but headbang to. ‘Welcome to Hel’ is available everywhere now through Nuclear Blast. You can order a copy here.
