Happy New Music Monday my fellow metalheads! This week I have a bunch of amazingly heavy new songs for you to jam to including Jiinjer’s new song “Vortex”. Before we get into that though I first wanted to announce that last week’s winning song was “Fuoco” from After Smoke Clears. You guys have spoken and it will be included on our list of The Best Songs of 2021 at the end of the year. Make sure to cast your vote for your favorite song this week at the bottom of the page!
New Music Monday 6/21/21: Featuring Jinjer’s New Song “Vortex” & More!
Don’t forget to listen along with today’s episode of The Versatile Virgo Podcast on Spotify. It’s also the only place you’ll be able to hear today’s Mystery Bonus Track From The Past, so make sure to tune in to find out what it is and why we’re talking about it.
“Vortex” – Jinjer
Metal fans like myself have been anxiously waiting for what’s to come from Jinjer after their epic 2019 album, Macro. This week they’ve finally dropped the first single from their upcoming album, Wallflowers. Jinjer’s new song “Vortex” is the explosive single we’ve all been looking forward to. Wallflowers will drop on August 27th. In the meantime, special editions along with new merch are available here. Jinjer will also have preorders for the album including limited edition pieces starting tomorrow, June 22nd, here on their website.
“Imperator” – Ex Deo
Kataklysm frontman, Maurizio Iacono, has been quite the busy bee when it comes to releasing new music. Last year, the band released their 14th studio album, Unconquered. But within this past week, Iacono’s other, Ancient Rome themed death metal band, Ex Deo, released new music as well. “Imperator” is the first brutally heavy single Ex Deo has released from their upcoming album The Thirteen Years of Nero. While we wait for the album’s release on August 27th, preorders are available here in the meantime.
“Kelly’s Meat Emporium” – Carcass
Carcass recently announced they will release their new album, Torn Arteries, on September 17th. “Kelly’s Meat Emporium” is the first banger we’re hearing off of that release, and it has fans like myself excited for what’s next. Torn Arteries is an album you won’t want to miss, so make sure to preorder or presave it.
“Knives” – Bullet For My Valentine
Bullet For My Valentine is back and more aggressive than ever with their new song, “Knives”. As of recently it seems like we’re seeing more and more bands going back to basics. Last week, we saw that with Machine Head’s “Rotten”. But this week, it’s Bullet For My Valentine that has fans excited to hear the band’s foundational elements are back with a vengeance. “Knives” comes from their upcoming, self titled record, which drops on October 22nd. In the meantime, BFMV merch along with album preorders are available here.
“Pray For Peace” – Carnifex
A Carnifex song is kind of like entering the best part of a haunted house. From the moment you step into this other world, every element, no matter how big or small, serves a purpose on furthering the intensity. That’s exactly what the deathcore titans bring to the table with their new single “Pray For Peace”. This beast of a track was made for the pit and while we’re waiting to see Carnifex on the road, make sure to headbang along with the music video.
“Tangaroa” – Alien Weaponry
New Zealand’s Alien Weaponry will release their 2nd album on September 17th. “Tangaroa” is the album’s title track, which also delivers an important message. According to drummer Henry de Jong, “Tangaroa is a heavy and angry message about how we are destroying the ocean with pollution and overfishing. The video ties in with this message, with us drowning in plastic conveying the struggle of ocean life.” Preorder Tangaroa here.
“When Will Gods Work Be Done” – Unto Others
I love a song that’s heavily bass driven, which is just one of many reasons why “When Will Gods Work Be Done” stood out to me. It’s the first single Portland’s Unto Others (formerly known as Idle Hands) have released through their new deal with RoadRunner Records. Unto Others utilizes a unique blend of gothic and heavy metal which is refreshing to hear from an emerging metal band. Vocalist/guitarist Gabriel Franco told Decibel that the band does have a new album in the works, but there’s no confirmed release date yet. While we wait for more from Unto Others, watch the video for “When Will Gods Work Be Done” here.
