There’s nothing quite like the moment when you meet one of your favorite bands at a show. But getting to actually talk with them right before they go onstage is a completely different level of awesomeness. In this week’s Fan Concert Diary, fellow metalhead and musician, Jason Payne, tells about the time he met one of his musical influences, Alter Bridge, at Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Spain.

Jason Payne Shares His Experience Meeting Alter Bridge at Razzmatazz in Barcelona on Novemeber 5th, 2016
“One of the best memories I ever had! Alter Bridge had just released “The Last Hero” and was touring with supporting acts such as Like a Storm and Living Colour. They played one of their longest sets. I met the band for the first time, via meet n greet and they were amazing. It’s not just a “take your photograph and get out” kind of meet n greet. They actually talked to people and listened. Before that I had a songwriting lesson with Tremonti that changed my life. He told me that in order to get good at it, he’d write every day (either some riff ideas or a song). He showed us how he comes up with those different chords and sounds that he’s known for. After that, I started to write either a song or 5 “ideas” per day. It totally changed me as a songwriter!
At the meet n greet, Tremonti put me comfortable with Myles, we talked about classical guitar and metal and then, it was show time… One of their best concerts ever. I’ve seen Alter Bridge plenty of times live. Probably the band that I’ve seen the most. They usually outdeliver in their shows, but that Razzmatazz show was something else… 20 songs full of energy and power. And a beautiful acoustic moment by Myles. Top Class! Thank you Alter Bridge for inspiring me to pursue a career in music!“
Speaking of Jason Payne, have you heard his new single?
“Waking the Damned” marks Jason’s metal debut with his new solo project, Jason Payne and the Black Leather Riders. This heavy new track is filled with smooth, melodic verses and an explosive chorus. It’s one you’ll definitely want to have in your regular rotation, especially if you’re a fan of bands like Alice In Chains and Alter Bridge. You can listen to “Waking the Damned” on these streaming platforms. Make sure to give it a listen and check out the music video below:
I also had the opportunity to chat with Jason about his new solo project and the new single, as well as who he is an artist. If you missed our interview last week, you can check it out here.
