If there’s one band that makes me just want to live my life without caring about what others think, it’s definitely Motörhead. Everytime I put on a Motörhead record I feel ready to conquer the world. That feeling is what prompted me to go with Motörhead for this week’s musically inspired outfit. In addition to that, I think the more you know about this iconic band may inspire you to listen to them more often. Because of that, I’m also giving you 5 interesting facts about Motörhead that you should know.
The Details On This Motörhead Inspired Outfit
This Motörhead shirt was reconstructed from the band’s merch by Ronchie Gear. All of her items are handmade, one of a kind, & upcycled. My favorite thing about this top is that the fit is more relaxed and casual, while still being sexy and showing skin. It’s very breathable so I know this will be a good one to wear for those outdoor summer concerts……whenever that time comes. 😥
Since I was going for a more casual look with this, I paired it with just a basic pair of jeans and my Demonia boots. This Motörhead shirt also has studded spikes on the straps which just makes it that more awesome! Because of that, I didn’t want to overcrowd this look with too many accessories, so I went for a simple approach with my Rocker Babe Shop earrings and Killstar choker.
5 Interesting Facts About Motörhead
There are so many cool stories and facts about Motörhead out there, so I just had to share some with you all for this week’s musically inspired outfit.
1. Lemmy described the breakdown of the iconic song “Ace of Spades” as “the tap dancing section”.
The clacking sound in the iconic song’s breakdown was created with a set of woodblocks provided by producer Vic Maile. However, Motörhead was initially completely against using them as additional sound effects. Fast Eddie Clarke said in an interview, “He set up a nice Neumann mic, and the three of us stood there with the blocks. Of course, at first we’re all doing it at different fucking times: ‘Come on, Phil, for fuck’s sake!’ ‘No, man, it’s you!’ But when we heard it, we thought: ‘Oh, it’s not bad.”
2. The name Motörhead comes from a song Lemmy wrote with a different band.
After being kicked out of the progressive rock band Hawkwind for an arrest in Canada, Lemmy went on to form his new band. Initially, he wanted to call his band Bastard. Eventually though, Lemmy settled on Motörhead, which was the title of a song he wrote for Hawkwind before being dismissed.
3. A Motörhead song can be heard in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie
The song “You Better Run” was re-recorded by Motörhead as “You Better Swim” for the 2004 film.
4. In 1984, MTV banned Motörhead’s music video for “Killed by Death” due to “excessive violence”.
In the video, Lemmy can be seen crashing through his girlfriend’s house on a motorcycle, flipping off her parents, getting shot by police in a high speed chase, and being executed by electric chair. He then comes zooming out of his own grave on the bike like the metal god that he is! I highly recommend checking it out on youtube if you have not seen it.
5. Throughout their career, Motörhead has had 11 different band members. The only consistent member throughout the band’s career was Lemmy.
This includes Lucas Fox, Larry Wallis, Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, “Fast” Eddie Clarke, Brian “Robbo” Robertson, Phil “Wizzo” Campbell, Michael “Wurzel” Burston, Pete Gill, Mikey Dee and the one and only Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister.
It’s also worth noting that the classic Motörhead line up and the original line up are different. Many consider Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, “Fast” Eddie Clarke, and Lemmy to be the band’s classic line up. However, the first Motörhead album was recorded in 1976 with Lemmy, Lucas Fox, and Larry Wallis. Unfortunately at the time United Artists Records felt the recordings were “unusable” and they were shelved. That changed, though, 3 years later when the label released it as ‘On Parole’.
